HOW TO GET TO THE CZECH REPUBLIC / OLOMOUC

Air connection
The easiest, fastest and the most comfortable way how to get to the Czech Republic is by air connection to Prague International Airport called Ruzyně. To travel to Olomouc (distance app. 270 km from Prague) you can decide to go by train from the main railway station (Praha Hlavní nádraží) or by car (highway D1 via Brno).
You may find flying to Vienna more convenient perhaps. In such case you also get to Olomouc (distance app. 200 km) by train, by bus or by car (highway D1 via Brno).
The Highway Code in CR is basically the same as in other European countries. However, the following basic instructions should be kept in mind:
Drive on the right side of the road, seat belts must be fastened both in and outside town and villages, maximum speed for passenger vehicle is 90 km/h, in towns and villages 50 km/h, and 130 km/h on motorways, the appropriate special stick-on label can be bought at border crossings, post offices or fuel stations, to drive under the influence of alcohol is prohibited.

Transfer from Airports
For conference participants whishing to have their transfer from the Airport to Olomouc ensured by BIOTRANS, buses will be arranged at the Airport to collect all interested registrants. There will be buses at the Prague Airport and also the Vienna Airport. (Subject to a fare.) You have to enrol for this service either during the payment procedure or later on. You should also provide information regarding the date and time of your arrival in Prague/Vienna.
Deadline for the enrolment is 31.5.2003.

Railway / buses
The Czech Republic boasts a dense network of railway and bus lines. Many international express trains pass through the country /Eurocity and Intercity are the best categories/ connecting most major European cities with Prague, where you get easy and suitable connection to Olomouc.
Likewise, there are many coach connections between Olomouc and other European countries. More information about connections, timetables and fares (both domestic and international) is available at railway, bus and coach stations and terminals, as well as at travel agencies.

Transport in Olomouc
In Olomouc we have an efficient and reliable public transport system (trams and buses) operating until 1:00 a.m., seven days a week. Most hotels are located within an easy-reach distance of the conference venue. All registered conference participants will be provided with a free ticket for public transport for the time of the conference.

INFORMATION FOR BIOTRANS’03 PARTICIPANTS ARRIVING TO PRAGUE AIRPORT RUZYNE FOR THOSE WISHING TO USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT FROM PRAGUE TO OLOMOUC

Trip from Prague airport to Olomouc by public transport is quite cheap, easy and fast:
The best way is to use a train connection from Prague main station (Hlavni nadrazi) to Olomouc. The trip takes about 3 hours and the trains go virtually every hour [ fast train timetable ]. The price is 441.- CZK (1st class) and 294.- CZK (2nd class), for EC trains 60.- CZK surcharge is required.

How to get from airport to the train station:

  1. Airport taxi – in front of the arrival hall. Fixed price Airport-Main Station is 560.- CZK (20-25 minutes) – ask for the bill.
  2. Airport shuttle mini-bus CEDAZ - in front of the arrival hall: group of 1-4 persons to one address in the city-center fixed price 360.- CZK; group of 5-8 persons price 720.- CZK (the price is for bus, not per person) (ca 30 minutes)
  3. Regular mini-bus CEDAZ - in front of the arrival hall – regular departures daily from 6:00 till 21:00 every half an hour (6; 6:30; 7; etc.) – stops at Dejvicka (Metro A) and Namesti Republiky (Metro B) – city center (ca 30 minutes – but you have to walk to the Station ca 15 min) - fixed price 90,- CZK.
  4. Bus No. 119 (in front of the arrival hall, first row of platforms, right) ( timetable here ) before entering bus buy a ticket for 12 CZK (unlimited validity for 60 min in all transport system of Prague) in tobacco shop (airport) or in the vending machine at the bus stop (coins required)
    Go by bus to the endstation (ca 20 min) Dejvicka , change to Metro A and go to the station Museum, here change to line C (direction Holesovice) and go just one stop to Main Railway Station (max 20 min together).

Warning: watch you property, pickpockets in Prague are active as in all other cities.
